A Change of Direction

Life is funny. When you think you've figured it all out, something else comes along and changes your perception of things. Take me for example: I wrote a book about discovering what you really want to do in life, because I thought I figured it all out, and now I recommend that people skip those chapters and use it for the rest of the stuff it's good for, like how to land a job, etc. Lol.

Today my perceptions are different about a lot of things; therefore, my direction has also changed in the process. The last time I figured out what I wanted to do, I decided on writing and journalism, and now my taste for it has minimized as my desire to continue managing restaurants has exploded. I heard once, and repeated many times, that you should take what you're good at, and make it great.

I've been in and out of the restaurant business since I was 16 years old, and it's what I'm good at. I've experienced the low end of the bargain, as well as the high end. Before now, I've never worked at a restaurant less than 65 hrs/wk for more than $30K/yr. With the company I'm at now (Jason's Deli), I work 46-50 hrs/wk for much more, and I'm still only a 1st Assistant. I'm happy where I'm at, the company keeps expanding and increasing sales, and the opportunity for advancement is astonishing.

So, that's where I'm at. :)
