A Boy's Dream

It happens often to me. Ever since I was a little boy. I'm either riding in the passenger seat of another vehicle, or driving my own. I look out onto the streets and parking lots and see a massive array of various other vehicles different than the one I'm currently in. Some better, some worse...

As I observe, I start to imagine myself in those vehicles. I imagine what it would be like to be in their shoes. What would it feel like if I were driving a rusty old Volkswagen? Then I see a sexy little sports car and imagine everybody gawking and wishing they were in my shoes...

As I continue driving, my imagination shifts a bit. I look around and say to myself, "If I had to choose a vehicle that is currently in my sight, which one would I be driving?"

I choose whichever vehicle it happens to be, usually a brand new truck or sedan to begin with, and imagine swapping mine with theirs. Along the way I see a better vehicle (in my opinion) and trade. By the end of the trip I'm driving a Corvette or a 60's muscle car.

I also have rules. Being a business man, I automatically think to myself, "Sure I'd rather be driving an $18,000 De Lorean in perfect condition, but I would take the $50,000 BMW, sell it, buy my De Lorean, buy a second vehicle for another $20,000, and invest the rest... Right?!

But that's not the point of my game. I have to make rules for myself to control these kinds of thoughts. I have to say to myself, "Whichever vehicle you pick, you have to keep it until you find a vehicle that you would rather be driving." Trading is your only option!

Another game I play is pretending that I own a secret underground parking garage (similar to those you find downtown that hold like 100 vehicles). As I drive along, I pick all the vehicles that I would add to my collection...

Lol. Fun stuff.

You must have a long drive to work if you have time to play such games. I think that I am happy in my own car because it holds many memories. I guess your game kind of makes me think if I traded cars would I have to trade lives? If so than I would only want my car.
